Royal Marines School of Music and staff quarters
The School of Music has now been converted into luxury apartments and town houses.

The Esplanade
This picture was taken from the stem of the old pier and shows the section of the sea-front from the Guilford Hotel (far left) to the Royal Hotel (far right).

Esplanade from the Pier
The view from the pier is little changed today, except that Lloyds and the other buildings immediately opposite the pier entrance have gone.  The building far left is now the Beachbrow Hotel.  The building on the far right is the Clarendon Hotel.

The old iron pier

This pier was destroyed on 29th January 1940 when it was struck by the steamship Nora in a gale
