This picture is taken from above Walmer Green looking north west over the barracks. The South Barracks and Sergeants' Mess can be clearly seen on the left. The barracks church is in the centre of the picture, in the top, right hand, corner of the field. To the right of this is the North Barracks.
This picture of the Town Centre, looking north east from the sea, shows the High Street, formerly Lower Street, across the bottom right corner. The grey area in the bottom right corner is Middle Street car park. Once an area of small streets and lanes, this area was destroyed by enemy action in WW2.
The green area, centre right, is St George's Chuchyard, with the rear of the church just visible on the far right. Just to the left of St George's Church, you can see the Astor Theatre, in Stanhope Road. The "L" shaped building left foreground is the Somerfield supermarket, with the houses on the north side of Park Street behind it. The road across the bottom left corner is Queen Street - the back of the cinema can be seen at the edge of the picture.
Centre left, in the West Street car park, you can see where Job's furniture store has been demolished to make way for a new Sainsbury's supermarket.
West Street crosses the picture from centre left to top right. In the top right corner you can just make out St Andrew's Church.
The mainline railway from Deal to Sandwich and Ramsgate crosses the picture top left.
